Hypermiler - Be One Today!

Hypermiler is a term coined by Wayne Gerdes to describe a driver who strives to exceed their vehicle's EPA fuel economy rating. A good hypermiler is one who can consistantly beat the EPA MPGs for their vehicle and does so in a manner that isn't to the detriment of other drivers on the road.

Most hypermilers of course, push for pulling out all the stops and the dedicated often achieve 50% or better than the posted EPA mileage figures. The hallmark of the hypermiler is taking it very slowly when trying to accelerate; after all, that pedal under their right foot is attached directly to the piggy bank.

Hypermiling tactics include:Keeping windows closed and A/C off… always. Hypermiling will increase your gas mileage and put more money into your pocket. Although the term hypermiling has a distinct American accent, the concept of maximizing fuel efficiency has worldwide appeal. Anyone can be a hypermiler and take their gas guzzling vehicle from getting 20 mpg today to 35 mpg tomorrow. For more information have a look at our Hypermiling Guide.
